ALT jobs for April 2027: when postings appear

A posting marked 令和9年度 is for the school year that begins in April 2027. The question that follows is when to start looking, and the answer is less seasonal than it sounds.

There is no single hiring season

Application deadlines on the postings collected here fall in every month of the year. Not one month is empty, and no month holds more than a sixth of them. A Board of Education that recruits in June is as ordinary as one that recruits in December.

That matters because it changes what works. Checking once, in the month you assume is the right one, is how a posting gets missed. Openings are easier to catch by watching a place than by timing a season.

A fiscal year is not an application window

令和9年度 describes when the work starts, not when the Board advertises. Some advertise close to a year ahead. Tokyo Metropolitan Board of Education ran its application period for the previous cycle from 19 November to 3 December, four months before that school year began. Others post weeks before a vacancy starts, and some fill mid-year posts whenever one opens.

Some Boards never close the register

A number of Boards of Education keep a standing register instead of running a window, and select from it when a vacancy appears. Their pages say applications are accepted on an ongoing basis, so there is no deadline to miss and no month that is too early.

Each Board page links to that Board’s own site, which is where the current terms are. What is written here can fall behind what they publish.

What to do now

Pick the prefectures that would actually work for you and watch them. A watched prefecture sends an email when a Board there is confirmed to be hiring, which is the part that does not depend on remembering to check.
